An oil depot is an industrial facility where oil and petroleum products are stored. As a rule, these are tanks that are located on the ground or underground and a platform for loading petroleum products onto transport or an oil pipeline.

An oil depot is a place of increased danger, so the choice of equipment for an oil depot is a very important issue.

Basic equipment for oil depots and gas stations

Each oil depot or gas station, in accordance with technical requirements, has a similar device:

  • a site with above-ground or underground tanks for storing petroleum products;

  • pipeline communications for receipt and shipment of petroleum products;

  • installations for draining and loading petroleum products, as well as pumps for transfer.

Each section of an oil depot or gas station uses a large amount of equipment designed for uninterrupted and safe operation.

Tank equipment is designed for storage and quality control of petroleum products. These are breathing valves, foot valves, samplers, drain devices.

Ball valves, gate valves, valves, hoses are necessary in pipeline communications for supplying and receiving petroleum products.

Equipment for draining and loading petroleum products is required to transfer liquids from one container to another. These are bottom and top discharge installations, loading risers, liquid dispensers, pumps for petroleum products, fuel dispensers.

Distribution equipment for tank farms

According to their functional purpose, oil depots are divided into four types:

  1. Transshipment. At these oil depots, oil products are reloaded from one type of transport to another.

  2. Distribution. At distribution tank farms, petroleum products are stored for a short time and are intended to supply consumers (gas stations).

  3. Transshipment and distribution combine the functions of transshipment and distribution tank farms.

  4. Storage bases. Petroleum products are received and stored at storage bases.

A gas station is a complex consisting of many high-tech devices, each of which performs specific functions in the operation of a gas station.

The main equipment used in the operation of gas stations:

  • fuel dispensers (oil dispensers, gas fillers);

  • pumps (for fuel oil, oil, fuel, pumping contaminated liquids);

  • measuring instruments (hydrometers, gas analyzers, octane meters, samplers, gasoline vapor sensors);

  • meters (fuel, oil, liquid meters, turbine meters, rotary meters);

  • filters and other cleaning equipment.

For technical condition distribution equipment of petroleum depots is observed by a machinist-technician.

Oil distribution depot equipment operator

The equipment operator must know the structure of the equipment being serviced, the rules of technical operation, and the process of receiving, storing and dispensing petroleum products. The employee must monitor the technical condition (detect by ear the incorrect operation of the equipment) and maintain the devices (clean, lubricate).

Job responsibilities driver's qualifications depend on the rank assigned to him.

The rank assigned to the driver, depending on the annual sales volume of petroleum products:

  • 3rd category – up to 1 thousand tons;

  • 4th category – from 1 to 20 thousand tons;

  • 5th category – from 20 to 100 thousand tons;

  • 6th category – from 100 to 130 thousand tons;

  • 7th category – over 130 thousand tons.

Electrician for repairing equipment for oil depots

An electrician identifies and eliminates defects during equipment operation. His responsibilities include disassembling, repairing, assembling and testing control systems for distribution tank farms and automation systems for pumping stations.

Depending on the assigned category, supervises the work of electricians of lower qualifications.

An electrician must know the design features electrical diagrams equipment, permissible loads on components and mechanisms and preventive measures to prevent breakdowns and accidents.

Equipment for oil tank farms at the exhibition

Equipment for oil depots is constantly being improved. All new modern equipment can be seen at the Neftegaz exhibition, which is held by the Expocentre Fairgrounds.

The exhibition includes companies offering pumping stations, modernized drainage and pumping installations, electronic sealing systems, measuring systems and other equipment necessary for the operation of oil depots.

During work exhibition "Oil and Gas" participants demonstrate new projects of gas stations, oil depots and oil storage facilities. Also at the exhibition you can learn more about the main and distribution equipment for oil depots.
